What did pleasure look like for the circumcised woman?
I can imagine, with the clitoris taken away, a lot of women's pleasure was affected significantly.
What did the sex lives/ pleasures of circumcised women look like before 'FGM'?
I read 'Against The Pleasure Principle' by Saida Hagi Dirie Herzi ,and even though the story was based on Somali practices, it seemed horrifying to be cut and stitched up. Urinating, menstruating, sex and childbirth all became painful.
I'd really want to know what this looked like before, and if no women had tried going against it before the colonialists came to refuse it.
As a Jewish mother who went against tradition and chose not to circumcise my son, I write about bodily autonomy on my Substack Beyond the Bris. I'd love for you to follow me. Male infant circumcision is somewhat analogous to removal of the clitoral hood in women, but obviously FGM has many forms, many of which are far more drastic and harmful than male infant circumcision.
Kikuyus learnt circumcision from cushites prolly as far back as the Ndemi ageset (1650?) and it immediately became embedded into culture. No one tried to go against it coz it was the norm. A rite of passage.
Not sure what pleasure looked like aki but im working on a piece on the sexual lives of Kikuyus. Spoiler: there were premarital sexual relations between youngins that involved everything but penetration so im sure they were familiar with clitoral stimulation. Further than that, ill have to look a bit deeper
One thing must kill a 'woman'
Let me 'leave' with my clit intact!
This is the perfect "the world did not begin when you were born" Continue in your pursuit of knowledge brother, and keep educating us. I love this.
This was very very enlightening ⭐️🫘

Not to defend the coloniser, but they were right about this one issue.
