"I wish we cared about our history as much as we should. I wish we recognised these places for what they stood for. I wish we would weigh their importance against the blood that was spilt to maintain the secrets within"

Love how Dads drop deep lore in the middle of a conversation 😂.

Anyway I understand a bit more why you feel so connected to our history, it's in your blood.

My grandpa wasn't officially Mau Mau but he did his part in the resistance. He had a gunshot scar on his left arm that he got after the colonialists tied him to a tree and shot at him.

your best piece yet. what a revelation on the greatness in your lineage and your life’s purpose! Kiburi House is clearly a site of many revelations in this country, while also being the first building owned by an indigenous African in the CBD. thank you for writing this!

I'm so proud of your grandpa on your behalf!!!!! He's a warrior!

My great grandpa happens to appear in history as well though I think he was a collaborator😬 (I don't know much of his story either)

Long live Maumau🫶🏾

An amazing read! I never knew or hear of Kiburi House and reading about it through your work has been riveting and how I hope that one day our History classes will dwell on our history as Kenyans! And I'm 100% sure that your grandfather is happy seeing you dwell and learn more on who he was!
